Is Palin's son proudly marching off to war?

There's been a lot of "proud American " talk about his deployment. But yesterday, my roommate told me a story just broke that a judge in juvenile court sentenced the delinquent to his choice of either jail or military service.

Yeah, I know, "leave the kids out of the election". Well, for election purposes only, I need to know how Palin governed her own home, and to what degree she's made misleading statements.

Has anyone heard a confirmation or denial of this story?

Do judges really "sentence" juveniles to military service in our volunteer military?

Update:

As for the venomous answers... try to relax a little. No, I don't have a source, and no, I don't know if it's true. that's why I'm asking the question... To see if anyone has a source, or if it's true. My roommate is a local politcian and teacher, but I don't know where he heard this. He gets much of his information from National Public Radio.

Update 2:

"Progressive" - I knew about the school bus vandalization..something like 31 schools had to close. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's heard this military sentencing... you don't happen to have a source, do you?

Its very much true. Apparently Palin's son was arrested for vandalizing school buses and stealing vodka. The options: go to jail or into the military. Nothing that woman said in her speech weights with merit.

it is unlikely that a judge would do that to child of the states governor so probably not true

many judges have given military service as an option rather than another sentence but it has happened less during the war and it usually isn't an option for a hardened criminal more for juvenile who stands a chance of being reformed

Track Palin enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 11, 2007, subsequently joining an infantry brigade which made him 18 at the time, too old to have been "sentenced" in a juvenile court. Good try though.

You can't be sentenced to military service because military folks are governed by limited civil rights of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. In the military, you are no longer governed by the same rules/courts/rights, so you cannot be forced to give up those civil rights by a court or anyone.

Personally, I think it would be a nice incentive program. It solves overcowding and underrecruiting.

That used to be the case, but You cannot be sentanced to Military service.

And most military find that an insult now. it implys that America's military is a bunch of felons.

I agree. it is a nasty view of the people that protect this country.

She just said he was deploying to Iraq. No one gave any information regarding the circumstances of his enlistment. You have a really good source there - in your roommate...

That comes as no surprise to me. i'd like to know your roommates source. I've heard about juveniles being placed into military programs as an alternative to kiddie jail. I'm sure you already know about the Huffington Post online. that is where i've been getting my info on Sarah

You have a link for your "friends" story. Judges no longer do that, nor does the military want them.

If her son does go Iraq, do you really believe for a minute that VP running mate of the United States will see any combat????

He'll be protected from the horrors of war just like Duyba was.

I wouldn't be surprise if they have now reconsider sending him-I bet they don't!

I love these friend of a friend of a friend stories about Palin and her family. You must spend a lot of time at the checkout line at Wal-Mart.

Quelle(n): Perhaps you haven't noticed but it is now statistically safer to be in Iraq than it is being in Chicago!
