What I notice about my black friends is everyone in the room is their main concern. If we are here for a job interview, they will spend the whole time making fun of people's clothes. Or if we are doing something, they get mad if I don't listen intently about their personal drama.

For everyone else, we play the script and make personal engagement a superfluous option. I can work on an oil rig without having to worry about my social status like high school.
