It was on the news that an off-duty police officer was going 100 mph on the highway outside their jurisdiction. Is this not illegal?

Meaning to say, can police officers in non-emergency situations outside their jurisdiction exceed the speed limit in such a manner and not have to face any consequences? By the way, the incident in question was on the Holland East-West Expressway in unincorporated Orange County (outside Orlando), Florida.

This officer was arrested and found guilty of reckless driving. He was also fired from his job. Yes, that would confirm it is illegal.

Why do you think it was news.

The FACT that he was ticketed and fired would appear to indicate that it WAS illegal.  Of course, that's just a guess based on the facts.

Welcome to the big picture, or at least part of it.   Cops extend professional courtesy to other cops.   Its a symptom of the

    "brotherhood" mentality.
