If a person wants to measure the length of their tongue, do they stick the end of the tape measure to the back of their throat?

My doctor told me to go up to the window and to stick out my tongue. 

I asked him if it would help him diagnose my complaint.

He said, "No. I just don't like the bloke living in the building across the street."
