Can an atheist join The Satanic Temple?

I am an atheist and just joined The Satanic Temple. Not because I believe there is a satan or god but because it is a group that believes in our rights as free citizens of The United States. They fight for our 1st amendment rights to be recognized and I feel they have the best morals of any religion out there. They are accepting and never violent or hateful to people of other religions. I like what they stand for.

OUR SEVEN FUNDAMENTAL TENETS

I. One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.

II. The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.

III. One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.

IV. The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one’s own.

V. Beliefs should conform to one’s best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one’s beliefs.

VI. People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one’s best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.

VII. Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word

    For atheists, the stories about Satan and any other fictional characters: gods, angels, elves, cartoons characters, etc.. Are FAIRY TALES. Like is the novel called: Bible and all the other ' holy ' books...

    Apparently you've answered your own question. You can join, since according to you, you did.

    The Satanic Temple describes itself as a "non-theistic" religious organization. It uses Satan as a metaphor for its core religious beliefs. One does not need to believe in a literal supernatural being called Satan (or God for that matter) to become a member.

    I've no need of any superstitious groups to define my morals and politics.
