is someone allowed to buy firearms with hunting license in NY?

I was debating with one of my friends. he told me that someone can actually purchase rifles or shotguns and ammo with only a hunting license. Because of the NYC SAFE acts and their own regulations and policies toward firearms. residents in NYC, they also need to apply either handgun or long gun permit in order to buy . I do not know if some shops will sell ammo and rifles to someone granted a hunting license. is it like what my friend told me？

you need to provide government issued ID for identification purposes to be able to purchase any firearm. and things get strictly regulated in NYC you need to have granted a long gun permit first, this is one prerequisite factor.

Basically, the hunting license is nothing more than a card that identifies someone as a hunter, a certification of proper hunting education and a privilege to hunt within a regulated season.

    1. A government issued photo ID is a federal requirement to purchase a firearm.

    2. Unless one lives in NYC, there are no long gun permits required in NY state.

    NO. A hunting license is NOT a Government issued PHOTO ID CARD.
