Why do people think not having kids is selfish?

Recently my boyfriend and I broke up because out of no where he decided he definitely wants kids, which is not what we agreed upon. Everyone keeps saying its selfish that I don't want kids and I don't get why. I feel making the decision to not have kids if you don't want them is actually smart and a lot more people should do just that,

    If you know that you don't want children but your bf does, it would be selfish of YOU if you had them. That would mean you wanted to keep your bf so desperately that you were willing to bring another human/s into the world.

    I applaud you. You are smart and strong enough to know what you want/need.

    Kids suck, They ruin you life and they cost like $300K each to raise.
