Can I Feed Large Breed Dog Food To Small Breed?

In my place, where I live, there more variety of meat and dog food, treats, etc for medium - large breed dogs.

But I have 2 small breeds a Yorkie and a Shih Tzu (Puppies).

So I wanted to ask can I feed them large breed puppy food.

Or at least can I feed them small breed adult food.

As even for small breed their is more variety of adult small breed food rather than puppy small breed food

So can I feed either of them? (Between large breed puppy and small breed adult)

Yes, but a small dog may find it difficult to actually eat large breed dog food - it's the size that is the difference between various dog food, not usually the content. There is a difference in content with Puppy and Adult food however. Puppies need 'more' in terms of nourishment, than adults do.

If yo ur willing to crack the large kibble into smaller pieces for your small dogs to eat then large breed or regular breed should work.

Large breed puppy has a little less calcium in it than small breed does from what I have been told. Small breed dogs are fully grown at a year while some large breed are still growing at 18 months, while considered and adult their Goethe plates have not sealed. Again going by what the vet techs told me.

The kibble size problem would be like trying to eat popcorn with the dmsllest sized pieces for you to pop in your mouth are pecan in the shell sized, the next smaller ping pong ball sized. While still etable you wouldn't be able just to pop a hand full of those super sized pieces in your mouth. Some of the large puppy kibble is 1/2 inch across and hard to help the pups keep their teeth cleaned.... But cracked into 1/8 inch sized then your pup would be able to get it in the back thr mouth to chew. Some of the micro teacup dogs have problems even eating small breed kibble as they are so tiny.

Sure, if you have a meat mallet or hammer & can break the much larger pieces (aka BLOCKS) of kibble into something they can get into their TINY mouths.

There is a TREMENDOUS DIFFERENCE in the NUTRITION calories, calcium levels etc. in puppy food, versus that in adult food - for good reason. A puppy, will do virtually all of its major growth in the first 4 to 6 months of its life. So no, unless you want to "BANKRUPT" the puppies' health & cause them all sorts of growth & joint PROBLEMS, you DO need to feed a small breed puppy food.... for the first 8 to 12 months.

If you have a Petco or Petsmart they carry a TON of brands of dogfood & you have NOT done your homework, on options of what to feed toy puppy breeds, if you think you are THAT limited. Pick some brands & look to see where they are sold in your area. (What did your breeder(s) recommend that you SHOULD feed?)

Do you REALLY lack ALL the common SENSE your questions suggest? If so, please start consulting your veterinarian before you do some MAJOR harm to your pups. I would HAVE to assume you did NOT buy from any responsible or reputable breeders since they should have told you what they WERE feeding & where to get it and/or given you a BAG of it, to take WITH the new puppy. Obviously, you do not feel you can turn to them, with the MOST BASIC questions. That is a PITY.

No, I don't recommend it, because large breeds require more caloric needs than small ones, unless you're trying to make your dog fat (which I also don't recommend).

Not if the kibble is too large and hard for it to eat.
