How to keep cats off kitchen counters?

People have tried many ways. There is no one good way to stop them from getting on the counter. Those that claim their cats NEVER get on a counter have no idea what the cat is doing when they are NOT at home - likely the cat is on the counter, table, etc.

I find it best to keep the counters free of food and other things that the cats may find attractive (especially food items). If there is nothing on the counter, they are less likely to be up there.

You can try sticky tape but most other things won't keep the cat off for long.

It takes some training. My cats NEVER jump on kitchen counters.

What I did...from the time they were old enough to jump that high, I trained them not to jump on counters. If I saw them on the counter, I would pick them up and set them on the floor. If they persisted, I would give them a small squirt of water from a water bottle. After a while, they no longer jumped up on counters.

You should turn off your kitchen counters.

Since no one answered I will state what I found. I cut the bottom off canned food grocery boxes and lined the counter with this. It works but I was look for other ideas.

Have a sprayer bottle of water ready. Every time they jump up on the counter, spray them. Doesn't hurt them in the least but they hate it.

I used a spray bottle filled with water. It annoyed my cat but didn't totally stop the behavior. Then I added some vinegar. That took care of that problem!

You have to pee on your counter so the cat thinks that it is another animals territory.
