With regards to the spike in gun sales after the latest in what appears to be an epidemic of mass shootings in the US?
Is this as senseless and inexplicable as would be a spike in poison sales after a spate of mass poisonings?

Actually, it's not ONLY the recent shootings that cause gun sales to go up. That's why the gun-makers prevent everything that would reduce mass murders -- it would reduce their profits if we didn't have the news full of mass murders.
And, one answer was sort of right in a sense. The gun-nuts tell each other that guns are going to be banned -- despite that clearly being a complete lie -- so they feel a need to "stock up."

No, quite a logical and predictable reaction when observed in context.
You've seen numerous politicians declare they would support/pass legislation designed to make the legal acquisition of firearm more difficult. Naturally, those who wish to own firearms wouldn't want arbitrary legislation interfering with the exercising of their constitutional rights, so they would acquire the firearms prior to the ratification of said arbitrary legislation.

Not really. Americans are afraid that reactionaries will succeed in making gun ownership illegal so they're 'stocking up' This is more like the lines at a grocery store before a bad storm event than it is poison sales. Smith and Wesson stock is up 93% in the last year.

Makes good common sense, but America averages around 12,000 gun murders per year in America alone. That's 12,000 criminals who have possession of guns that should not. Until you figure out how to keep guns out of those 12,000 people the other 20 million are going to try to be prepared to welcome them.

Actually, it's more like a spike on fire extinguisher sales in response to an epidemic of arson.

More mass shootings are cut short by John Q. Concealed-Carry-licensed citizen than by cops arriving 15 minutes later. A little something the media don't want you to know...

No more surreal than all the Syrian 'refugees' being welcomed into the country this week! Or the number of illegals allowed into an open border to do the work "no white man will do for those wages" by the people campaigning on "minimum wage" "wage disparities" and calling US the "racists for NOT wanting them here!

It's called self protection since Obama clearly has no interest in doing the job.

epidemic? you mean the 500+ killed every single year in Chicago? thats an epidemic and who is doing the shooting there?
14 is a small outbreak, 500+ is an epidemic
and no its not the same, people wouldn’t buy poison to protect them and their loved ones
