Why do airports have bars?
....And then, according to TV at least, some (maybe just a few) passengers get told that they're too drunk to fly and are denied entry. How ironic is that?
Honestly, I do tend to be on the "slow" side. I seriously don't know: Why do airports have bars in the first place?

Human beings aren't robots. They have a choice. If you're enough of a brainless f*ckhead to get yourself trashed to the point that they refuse to let you fly, then that's your stupid fault. The majority of people might like to have one or two while eating a pre-flight meal, or to take the edge of their nerves, and can do so sensibly.

The airlines don't own the bars. Those are private businesses who rent out the space in the airport. So those private businesses have no way of guaranteeing what an entirely seperate business (the airline) will or will not allow you to do, simply because they share a common building.
It would be no different if I went to the mall, got drunk at the bar at applebees, then went to the archery range in the same mall, and it turned out they do not allow visibly intoxicated people to shoot their crossbows. I cannot blame the mall, or the archery range, or applebees.

People often have a lot of time to kill between flights, and would like to have a drink or two while they wait or while they have dinner there. Some people might want a little help relaxing or calming nerves before a flight. As is the case anywhere, you have to know how to drink responsibly and they assume that adults should be able to know their limits. Most do.

Some people want to have a drink before they fly as it can calm them down. However it is up to each person to know their tolerance level and be able to control themselves. No one is forcing them to get a drink. They can always walk by it and go straight to their gate. You can make the same argument of convenience stores selling lottery tickets to people who are earning below average wages. Many times it is the hourly workers playing the lottery hoping to strike it big, but most of the time they lose.

Well, it's okay just for stop for only one beer but not more. Actually airports bars don't always mean people will get in plane. Some just stop there for drink then went home after drop friends off.

Because many people enjoy stopping off for a drink during a connection between flights. The majority of passengers have the sense/restraint not to get blitzed to the point of being denied boarding of a flight.

If you've ever been on a plane you'll have seen most people aren't drunk, in fact I've never had any problems with drunks in airports in my life. In towns though.... Different story...

Airports have bars because they make money.
Also many people fly much better when they are buzzed.

You can have a drink and still fly, you can even enjoy a drink on the flight. What you can not do is overindulge and then fly. People need to limit themselves.

Alot of people are nervous about flying and need a small drink to calm their nerves. Can you blame them after MH370
