How to replace muffler on 2002 Monte Carlo?

i want my mufflers replaced but when i looked at them they are welded both sides into the pipe. How would i be able to replace them if the whole exhaust is welded? Cut it and weld a new muffler in place? that seems like a lot of work for just a muffler replacement.

By using a "Sawzall" like the one in the below link with a proper plate to cut through stainless steel:

    http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200...

Then cut the muffler off and buy one as you can find (After Market or any where) that the pipe's ID is the same and then buy what I've called "Exhaust steel pipe fitting" or "Exhaust pipe compression fitting" like the included picture below.

Make sure to do your measurement RIGHT and DO NOT cut the pipe ends too short: It'll leak !!

Make sure the fitting fit slightly "loose" over the pipe so when you tighten the two bolts it'll seal the pipe ends thus no leak. Do not over tighten as the bolts will break (There is a torque specs for it)

These special "Fittings" or "exhaust "Clamps" sell all over at your local exhaust shops or online. Use your search engine other name is "Google" it. This is one of those Web sites:

Your best bet is to find a muffler shop. Not Midas or Meineke. A private mechanic with his own business. It's not worth trying to do exhaust work on your own and many systems require having a lift to get the pipes in place. There is not enough room when you work on jack stands.

Take the car to a professional muffler shop and let them do the work. If your new mufflers need to be welded in place, then let the experts do a proper job on them.

I'm just curious why you want to replace your mufflers. The way you explain, it seems they aren't rotten or leaking.
