I am looking for a seating app for a wedding. The guest enters their last name, then clicks their name when it pops up and sees their table.?
I saw it featured at a wedding expo. Some of attendees names were already in for the seminar sessions- so they typed in or the attendant typed in their last name. It showed everyone with that last name and they selected which one was theirs. It then displayed a screen that told them which table they were assigned to. I have over 200 guests and I think this will help me reception usher to locate persons quickly. However, I can't remember the name of the company that does it here in Barbados. So I am looking for an app that does that even if I have to pay for it. I think they used it on Ipad. But am willing to use any similar app on Apple products or Android
Just some info based on replies: I have tried googling it but there are so many seating apps out there for various functions.
Few things: 1- In my country, we tend to have ushers at the reception, maybe you call them a host or hostess. They direct and escort persons to their tables.
2- I never meant for the guests to directly interact with the app. I meant for the 5 ushers I have to man devices with them to assist them in helping persons find their seats.
3- I am grateful that you took the time to answer my question.
4- I am sure that at your wedding, you did what you wanted. Please allow me to do that.
5- With the except of one person, no one answered the question. I asked persons to help me locate this app, or if they know of any app that did the function as was lined out in the details. I did not ask if it was tacky. I did not ask for opinions. I simply asked for help in locating this app or something similar. Thank you for all your help.

Yeah, and they're pretty much all exactly the same, or similar enough that you wouldn't need to worry about the differences since you're only planning this one event and not an annual conference or anything like that. Some are designed to work with specific databases, but you can rule those out in your search, too. Just sort by price, request a few trials, and go from there.

Reception usher? What?
Literally never been to a wedding that had a reception usher.
How are you expecting an app to work? Are you going to have someone's tablet by the door and then have to have someone stand there and watch that it doesn't get stolen? Who is going to help your technologically impaired guests figure out how it works? Are you going to have more than one so there's not a line going out the door while everyone crowds behind one tablet? Are you expecting guests all to download the app for the sake of your wedding? What happens if the internet at the venue is sketchy at best and the app stops working?
There's a reason people still do paper seating charts and place cards. They work.
Like, I'm not anti technology, at my own wedding the only time I didn't have my phone on me was when I was going down the aisle and saying my vows, and I'm ALLLLL about E3 and stuff like that. But the logistics of this app thing are not working in your favor
EDIT: You asked your question on a PUBLIC FORUM. Anyone with an account is entitled to answer and offer their opinions even if they differ from yours. A reception doesn't need ushers. Your guests are not children. Weddings don't even need ushers, people can find their seats just fine. And believe me, I'm speaking from experience here, there are a TON of potential issues with an app like this. Consider alternatives.

no, no, no.
the tech world really does not need to take over absolutely everything in our lives. geesh.
people who do not know how to use that technology are going to have no clue and be hopelessly lost. plus, it is too impersonal and such a tacky way to treat people who have given up their time from busy schedules to come to your wedding.
they want to interact with human beings, not computers.

I would completely advise against doing an app. I can just picture all the elderly (or otherwise technologically-challenged) guests staring at the screen confused and clogging up the line.
I would suggest grouping name cards in alphabetical order(with table number clearly written under the name), and breaking them up into 2 or 3 different tables. A-F, G-R, S-Z - you get the idea.

Oh my gosh, this sounds like a huge pain in the rear for your guests. Please don't do this.

Something like this sounds and looks great at an expo, but the enviable confusion that takes place when you have 200 people lining up all at once for an usher with an iPad will turn it into a disaster. A large table with seating cards is familiar and often 5 or 6 couples can very quickly find their card at the same time. Sure it's nothing new, but its extremely efficient.

What not do what most people do.
Put an table by the door, and put the person name and table number.
People go and get their number and table, on their time.
It's in alphabetical order, it's easy to fine.
Google the apps.
You want 200 people to stand and enter their name, you think it will take less time than going to an table looking for an card with your name on it?
More than one person can get the card at an time.

Have you tried Googling it?
That sounds like a waste of money to me. 200 guests isn't too much. If you number tables and lay out cards, people figure it out themselves.
