Is it normal to hate self-improvement? How do I overcome this?

I hate self-improvement, because it kills my self-esteem.

If I already have a good, healthy self-esteem, self-improvement only makes me find reasons why I need to be better...

And if I can't live up to my self-improvement goals I only end up feeling inadequate and have a low-self esteem, which is the exact opposite of what self-improvement is supposed to do.

How do I avoid feeling this whenever I try to make my life better?

Update:

For example, I was relatively happy with my body. I am a thin guy and don't really have much muscles but I had loved and accepted myself.

I was still a healthy weight and had a great metabolism.

Now since i started working out more i only obsess over just how weak my arms are and how little muscle I have, and obviously this only makes me feel worse and worse...

    Hm, yes I agree.

Most people who want to self-improve do it because they are not happy with how they are now.

But sometimes I think self-improvement isn't a bad thing even if you are happy with yourself.

Because if you are content than you will never improve. If I'm happy being jobless than I'd never get a job, so self-improvement would help me get one for example.

But yeah being content and trying to self-improve only harms my self-esteem...
