Where is this belief that men were more 'masculine' in the past coming from?
It varies between culture and culture.
The Romans openly practiced homosexuality and idealized smaller, weaker more hairless men than one with a large and manly body.
300 years ago British men might have worse dresses and wigs and makeup while having tea parties together.
As recently as the '70s disco-loving men were effeminate and flamboyant, and don't even get me started on the '80s.
So, where is this belief held by Men's Rights Activists that men were 'more manly' in the past and that today's men are feminized weaklings?
Sure, there might not have been a Justin Bieber or One Direction types in say the 1960s, but to deny the fact that masculinity has always been subjective across culture is ridiculous...

Maybe it's not about being masculine, but about being more man like. ie- changing a flat tire, son to fish, showing by example the appropriate way to treat- women, men, family, and strangers.

It's all in your feminist induced worldviews guy. Don't fall for their social engineering tripe.! Guys are already starting to think that masculinity includes metrosexuals crying on the sidewalk because they missed the sale on make-up and man purses. Then you got the newest weirdos calling themselves the "gender fluids". If you're born a man, be a fu*king man god damn it.!

I wonder that too. All this talk about men being feminized. I think it's partly because lots of jobs are non-manual these days since automation developed in factories. Lots of people have desk jobs and are in the service industry is rather than in manufacturing. Men have fewer physical outlets. Also we know more about health and people look after themselves better including men taking care of themselves, wearing sun cream, eating well, we are all more focussed about hygiene. Men 20 years ago wouldn't believe that men today would have whole ranges of moisturisers and skincare products. Shaving cream, soap and a bit of anti-perspirant were about all they used. Is that advertising doing that? And skinny jeans! Well... But traditionalist men can't get their heads round the idea of paternity leave, changing diapers/nappies, sharing household chores, lots of things that have come in as normal even though some men were always like that.
Edit- i'm not saying that men are more feminine these days. I just think our idea of what's masculine is different/better now.

The past almost always looks better than the present. This is why previous prime ministers and presidents start to look not-so-bad-after-all when compared to the current ones.

They were and science has proven this. Men today have low t, less muscle mass, and the plastics industry is to blame. Also, look how many transgender transformations there are today.

It comes from stupidity. People idealize the past and bitxh about the present.that seems to be a part of human nature.

Men are less masculine now. Women are less feminine. l saw a pic of my grandad and he looked so rough and hard. He had a steely look about him.
