Should I rush my cat to the vet? Bite?
My cat is an outdoor cat and he just recently came inside for food. We noticed him making some strange huffing/sneezing noises, so I picked him up to have a look and noticed two very small punctures (I think) and it's rather swollen. He won't really let me touch it to get a closer look but I'm pretty sure it would be a spider bite. I'm not really sure what kind of damage this can do because I don't know exactly what bit him, so I was wondering if I should call in the vet to check him. I'm more worried about the swelling blocking his breathing than anything and we're about 30 minutes away from a vet if anything happens. We're in South Australia as well if this helps with knowing what is around us that can do this. Opinions?
Just so everyone knows, I kept a very close eye on him for the next few hours and the swelling was going down within around 30 minutes and he seemed fine. With that I thought it may have just been a bite from a non-venomous spider.
Vets around here charge a lot of money to even come in and check on an animal as we live in the outback so I wanted to be sure before I went spending money I didn't have if he didn't really need it. He's doing fine and the swelling was temporary. Thanks guys :)

I would call your vet if open or the nearest emergency clinic for advice. Most likely they will want to see him - particularly as you describe swelling and possible 2 small punctures. Not knowing your area or the types of animals around my first thought is a small snake. I have seen many and often the swelling is intense and the marks are hard to find. Do NOT take a chance on this - call and get advice how to proceed and then get to the vet for treatment. This sounds like it could be serious. If the area is anywhere around the mouth or face area then he tangled with something - possibly poisonous.
I know this was posted several hours ago but I am interested in knowing the outcome - please let us know.

Go straight to the vets. It could be serious and its better to be safe than sorry. Give him some water and rub around the area if you can, keep him calm and comfortable and go and get a professional.
Even if it's not serious it sounds like it could be painful. Good luck

If the cat is old definitely take him to the vets! But if the cat is over a year but under 5 years then no you probably don't need to

I think you should contact your vet immediately for advice.
Hope your kitty recovers quickly.
