It's my understanding that the skin of the cow's udders get rubbed and raw and wounded from over-milking-- even if the udders are treated. I have breastfed two babies. My nipples have gotten sore and raw from frequent marathon nursings. Therefore, it would stand to reason that something similar happens to the poor cows.
