Maths - Combinations and Permutations?
A restaurant owner has 45 dishes on his menu. How many combinations are there that include dish numbers 4, 32, 18, 19, and 29 but not dish number 1.
The way I see it, we can use nCr and calculate it this way, which would give me n = 45, r = 5 so the number of combinations is 1,221,759, but the 'does not include dish number 1' throws me. Is this still correct?

Your question does not make sense!
What you have done is calculate the number of combinations of ANY 5 dishes from 45. That is not what the question is asking.
How many dishes are to be selected? Obviously if you want ten dishes to include 4,32,18,19 and 29 and 5 others, you will get a different answer than if you select 20 dishes to include those 5 and 15 others.
You could also have the option of ordering 44 dishes (just not number 1). Therefore depending on what you mean, our answers will change.
The easiest way to deal with number 1 is to imagine it is excluded from the menu and instead of 45 items on the menu, there are only 44.
