Friend Won't Back Off?

I ended things with a friend. Because he was a bit of a borderline insulting kind of guy. He was depressing, and had no motivation in life. All he wanted me for was his counselor and other things. He denies it, but whatever. It's over! He continues to call me leaving messages on my machine. For me to call him. I call him and what is wrong. His response is I am bored can you pick me up. I cannot handle things here he says. By the way, he is 50 with no car, and has never lived on his own.

At first, after I ended this so called adult friendship. He said can we still be friends. I said yes. But, I said that to be nice. Instead, he calls me the next day, the day after you name it. So he leaves the dramatic messages on my machine and calls left and right also. I ignored him till later. He called me to get him out the house because he was having an emotional break downs. I finally told him I am tired of him calling me. And that he needs professional help. And that he needs to learn how to treat people in life better.

It is to the point I have to be mean now. He will even cry over the situation. It is very disturbing for me. Makes me scared he will do something to him self. What do you all think
