K98 Mauser Prices?
What's the price range on K98's these days? There's a local gun shop that said that they have sniper variants for $900 (Don't know their condition). Really would like to get a German one (of course), but there seems to be a lot of Yugo's out there too. Thanks!
Thanks for the information, everyone.

Simple, don`t play the Mauser game unless you know how to play. It`s all about convincing someone else why one Mauser is more valuable than another. Usually yours is the less value because of this or that mark. $900 is too much to pay for any Mauser without some kind of paperwork. Those markings? You can buy most of those stamps on Ebay at times. My advice is to buy a set of 7.92x57 bore gauges along with a Field, No go, and Go headspace gauges to check out those old worn out WWII rifles. At least you can find a good reliable shooter. Yugo Mausers are out there in unissued condition for less than $300....I know....I bought one to add to my Mauser collection. Not only looks good, but is safe, reliable, and a good shooter.

Listen to the guys that have bought Mausers and know the number of fakes out there. My Dad was a gunsmith and trades school teacher. He bought over 20 German Mausers back in 1959 at 20 dollars apiece for class use. The school frowned on the project and did not allot any money towards his project. He bought them with His own money so He took them when He retired.
He and another friend/student stripped them all down to bare receivers and and even cut-a-way several of them to show inside details to students. They were mounted on boards to each student to have a prop to follow along. Out of the blue sky came a Mauser expert and found that there were several Mausers with fake markings or ones that did not exist in any books. This discovery was in the early 1960s when Mausers were not worth much at all. Even all-numbers-mate Mausers were just regular prices.
Just last year when I started a class to use these old receivers one student suggested reassembling them to the barrels and stocks to sell them for funds to buy other project receivers. I`m losing my whole point so I`ll just conclude that Mausers have been faked since before the early 1960s so beware of sniper models that do not conform to what Mauser experts have researched with a lot of hours studying. The scope, mount, and receiver will have proof marks of one German inspector that is documented somewhere. The Germans were fanatics about someone being held responsible for quality products.

They can range from $200 or less for a rough Yugo, to thousands for a genuine WWII German sniper.

Be advised that many if not most of the Mauser "Sniper" rifles on the market currently are fakes.

That's WAY to much for a Mauser they're just ripping people off. I got mine for $185 and you should pay no more than $350 for one.
