How does the British deal with their imperial history and how should they deal with it?

How do the British deal with it...it is taught in history in school, it is all around us in the country with castles and roads, trade, immigration over the centuries has brought people from ex British colonies to live in the UK..it is history it is not particularly spoken about in everyday life, it was inventive, developed many countries and gave them wealth of education, skills and industry as well as making Britian the best and for a tiny island that is some feat, so if asked, if dicussed it is a history of pride in the main...

There is no need to deal with it,every country in the world has done something in the past that it maybe should not have done,but what people forget is that some good was done in our imperial past,and it led on to the commonwealth, which is an organisation for good.Do you think the italians and the greeks look back and say how bad it was that they kept slaves?its gone,forget it.

There were bad points to the British Empire. However, there were good points too. If the British were so terrible, nobody would want to be part of the present day commonwealth.

Other countries set about creating their own empires. The British were better at it. Don't tell me your country would not have created an empire if you had the means to do it.

By concentrating on the positives,acknowledging the negatives,and accepting today that the British Empire was in the past.

We just don't really talk about it. We know what we did was wrong, but we were just following the crowd. Spain started and empire, so we followed, and did it better but in a more cruel way.
