Vegan cakes - are there any ?

I know its a trivial question but for a veggie leaning towards going vegan - it's one that needs to be answered !

I can't just make my own as I only have a microwave. Not great I know, but it's all I've got and will have to make do for the time being. Also I don't want suggestions to buy them online, as I'm on a very tight budget and don't need the extra costs of

p+p etc. So I need to be able to buy them in a supermarket or a bakers shop ( in the Uk please ). Thanks. x

    You betcha.

A classic example that people have been making for years is the Depression or Crazy cake or even Wacky cake. It does not have ANY dairy or eggs in it. It turns out great every time and tastes delicious.

    Ingredients:

    3 cups flour

    2 cups sugar

    pinch salt

    2 teaspoons baking soda

    10 level tablespoons unsweetened cocoa

    2 teaspoons vanilla

    3/4 cup salad oil

    2 tablespoons vinegar

    2 cups cold water

    Preparation:

Sift dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl. Add remaining ingredients and mix with a large spoon until smooth. Spoon into a greased and floured 13x9x2-inch baking pan. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Frost with your favorite frosting.

sorry I finally read the rest of your question which I missed earlier.

here is a mug cake recipe that is made in the microwave and is vegan.

"Mug cakes are fairly popular, but they often have egg. Here's a tasty version you can make for yourself in a flash! Food-allergy friendly, too! I highly suggest using Hershey's Special Dark cocoa powder in this recipe (I've switched to only using it instead of regular cocoa powder). It's richer, moister, and smoother! Variations: try coffee or rice milk instead of water, use other flavored chips, or add nuts."

    Ingredients

    4 tablespoons flour

    3 tablespoons sugar

    2 tablespoons dark cocoa

    1 dash salt

    1 dash cinnamon

    2 tablespoons canola oil

    3 tablespoons water

    1 teaspoon vanilla

    chocolate chips (optional)

    Directions

Combine dry ingredients in a microwave safe mug.

Add liquids and chocolate chips (if desired). Stir well down to the bottom edges of the mug, making sure to wet the dry ingredients thoroughly. Add more water if needed to reach a thick but stir-able consistency.

Microwave on high for 60 seconds (may vary due to microwave power).

    Serve warm.

  • It is possible to bake vegan cakes (and vegan cupcakes); I've done so myself. I even live near a vegan bakery. I don't know what shops exist in the UK, but I'm sure there are groceries like Whole Foods that might have vegan baked goods. Or you can Google "vegan bakery" and your city to try to find them.

Also check out www.happycow.net for vegan options all over the world.

Yes, there are vegan cakes. Not knowing what stores you have in your area which might carry them, I suggest calling some of your local stores, or visiting them, and asking if they sell vegan cakes.
