how do you become a hunter/ deer stalker/ outdoor adventure professional?
My son (15) has no other idea for his future career than joining the army. I am looking for alternatives that are similar, but civil.

Meread, if he has never hunted before then the odds and chances for that kind of work is so low as to be non-existant. I have hunted since I was 7 years old (with supervision).. i'm 55 now.
I understand you don't want him to join the Army, but there are OTHER military services. The military is NOT a bad deal, benefits and travel. I spent some of the BEST years of my life in the US Military (even during wartime). I saw half the world if not more and experienced things few have.
Encourage him to do extremely well on his ASVAB test so he can get a GREAT school doing SOMETHING he likes instead of just basic stuff. Going in to the Army as a basic grunt while honorable.. is not the best alternative. Same with the Navy.. he needs a school guaranteed in WRITING so he wouldn't become a Boatswains Mate (no rate).. no offense to my BM Shipmates.
You can't squelch a young man's heart.. especially one that wants.. no.. MUST SEE the world and be part of something bigger than himself. Just because he enlists does NOT automatically mean he's going to war or going to be a door breecher (kicker).
Cut those strings Momma.. you gotta let him fly. I know it's not easy, but trust me.. my Mom & Dad would NOT have been able to hold me like that. So.. they signed for me to enlist at 17 (I DID finish HS and got my diploma) in the delayed entry program.
Good luck.. Tell him get out and do what he has to do while he's young. When he's old - he will not be able to.

Professional hunter/guide is not a viable option. Most of the state agencies that hire such people to do research or capture animals for study - they hire reformed poachers or people with a degree in biology and a background in eiether survival or were born and raised in the boonies like upstate Maine or Alaska.
I raised three boys - all are in college, one is in the military and still taking college classes to finish his degree. I would recommend you restrict his tv and computer time to 2hrs a day - no texting eiether - no exception for weekends or holidays....... and get him involved in something local. Do some volunteer work. Get him to visit the local old folks home and chat up the elederly once or twice a month. Drag him to various activities in the local community from art exhibits to muscle car races. Fricken anything to get him away from the boob tube and computer virtual world and interface with the real world. Have him read the paper Sunday to Friday and pick out where you two are gonna go - and let him know if he doesnt read the paper front to back and pick a new place - then Dad will. Even if it is simply taking in an afternoon action adventure movie at the local theater - it's still leaps and bounds better than the tv and computer.
Your local police - will be happy to give him or both you an opportunity to do a guest drive with the cops. Your local fire dept - will bend over backwards to show him the ropes. So will the ambulance guys. Same with your local power plant. I would be shocked in the local computer store that builds customs computers (not a big box store) would not take him in for a few hours on a Saturday to see how they are put together.
My wife and I made a decision early on that we were not raising our kids to be our friends. We raised them so they would be self sufficient when they reached 18 and we would have the option to kick them to the curb if they became d-bags. lol.
Me. My dad was an IRS agent. He loved to sit behind a desk and knew exactly how much money he had down to the last penny in his suit pocket. So, of course when I joined the Boy Scouts he 'volunteered' me to be the troop scribe...... which meant while all the other kids were doing cool things I got to count pennies, nickles, and dimes from the club dues and balance spreadsheets. That taught me NOT to follow in my dads footsteps. WTF? Who joins the boy scouts to count loose change? Duh?? LOL. So - dont be shocked if your kid doesnt take a liking to what you do.
Good Luck. At least you are doing this while he is 15 and not 18 or worse - 25 and still living in your basement.

DNR. I looked into it a long time ago for myself. It seemed like too much. You have to go to a bootcamp type thing... Im mad at myself every time I see a conservation officer, for not going through with it. There's not much demand in the field, but the job would be great if you could land it. Probably cheaper than college too..

I guess just find someone that will pay him to be a hunter/ deer stalker/ outdoor adventurer.

really your sone would need a strong passion for the outdoors. Then he would need to get intouch with professionals already in the buisness willing to talk to him (possibly give him a chance). He could take up amature stuff like filming hunts, voluntering to work with others at like a kids qual hunt.. Also he could possibly get in touch with your states Department of Natural resources to see about tagging along with them. ( I did it for 3 summers with the Georgia DNR).

With all due respect, why don't you just let your son do his own thing? It's not your life to live. Once he turns 18, he can do whatever the heck he wants. Do you really want to push him away from you even further by trying to keep him back from doing what he wants?
Some parents need a high five. In the forehead. With a baseball bat.

Nothing wrong with a career in the military, but tell him to join the Air Force instead.

First, you must actually go outdoors. Go places where you are likely to find real people doing just that. Maybe invest in a guided hunt or just talk to a guide.

Join the forces...see the world...get a trade for future life...get paid for doing it. It worked for me.
