Canadian barrel length laws?

I have a rem 870 with a 28" barrel. I want to buy a replacement barrel for it. I found a decent price on a barrel but it is 18". I thought anything under 18.5" would class the gun as restricted. So my question is would an 18" barrel make my shotgun restricted?

We have a few illogical rules here in the GWN. First off, to qualify as Non-Restricted, the barrel must be OVER 18" or have an overall length of at least 26". Most makers say it's an 18.5" barrel to be very legal. If you google Canada Ammo and look at the Dominion Arms shotguns, they come with 8, 12 or 18" barrels. BUT the short barrelled versions HAVE to have the full stock so they are legal.

Quelle(n): I always wanted to put a pistol grip only on an 8" barrel....and with the 5 round box mag...it would be a formidable close range weapon...don't ya think ? ( highly prohibited, though )

the barrel if mfr to that length is legal as long as overall length is 26". it doen't change it's classification. there are 16 an 14" barrel shotguns sold in canada by marstar that weren't restricted.

Here in the US it's 18 inches. The extry 1/2 inch is just a little safety margin in case the barrel was cut short at the factory.

But in Canada as I understand it, you can have short barrels, yet you have a harder time getting a semi-auto shotgun or rifle.

In the U.S the law is 18"

yes, it needs to be 18.5"+ to be legal if modified. to go lower you need to have the gun manufactured with that shorter barrel to be legal in Canada.

btw, here are the laws quoted:
