Hunters- Do you like to see snow in the ground when you're after game?

Does it help you track the animals better?

If you do, you'd probably get a kick out of being where I am in northern Michigan. We've been getting the white stuff nearly every day since the week before Thanksgiving. Indeed, I thought the kids would have to do their Halloween trick-or-treating on dog sleds this year. Fortunately, it's mostly been the fluffy stuff instead of the wet. sloppy crap that bends shovels.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, or whatever you're celebrating.

Update:

WTA- I'll say a prayer for you.

Update 2:

Lynxbow- Yeah, I hate when that happens.

I love snow for hunting but not too much. Right now I have over 5 feet of the stuff and its still coming down heavy. Last year we got over 130 inches in just November. By spring we should have about 12 feet of the stuff where Im at and over 30 feet in the high country. Because of the deep snow deer and moose stay close to open water along the shores of saltwater bays and islands. So you can imagine deer hunting with deer floundering in deep snow in January isn’t hard on snow shoes or a snow mobile. A few winters ago the snow got so deep in the Tongass it killed thousands of deer. So while I like snow I prefer not too much of the stuff so we have less winter kill of big game here. It does make tracking a simple task if the snow is right.

If I see snow on the ground where I hunt I have really screwed up or gotten lost. I'm in Southern California.

Space Cowboy it actually does snow here in So Cal and there are even Ski resorts, thing is I don't do hunting where there are potential Snow Ski idiots around, they're generally hard to field dress properly

Fortunately for me the hogs like lower elevations and I mean feral pigs not the chicks found on motorcycles

i love the snow because you can practically step on pheasants and quail. makes for great dog work too. as a matter of fact, I will hunt longer and harder when there is snow on the ground. I love waterfowl hunting in blizzard conditions. it really levels the playing field by impeding their keen sense of sight. the worse the winter weather is, the more excited I am about hunting. I am definitely not taking jabs at anyone else, but for me personally, I would feel like a sissy if the weather discouraged me. the animals live in the weather. if I cant spend 6 or 7 hours pursuing them in it, I wouldn't feel worthy of pursuing them at all.

    LOVE the "bad" weather.

I don't like snow. It's pretty to look at when I'm warm inside, but I don't like being out in it. It might be fun for 30 minutes while I'm throwing snowballs at my friends, but then I'm ready to head inside, take a hot shower, and have a cup of coffee.

Tracking animals? Heck, if it's snowing here in South Carolina, I don't plan on being outside, much less hunting. As much as I enjoy it, I also enjoy NOT getting sick.

You can keep your snow... but I hope it hasn't caused monetary damage or power outages. That isn't fun for anyone.

Only if it's not -10 below windchill after the snowfall and it's less than 3 inches so my Jeep doesn't get stuck in the corn field ruts..
