Anyone familiar with Santa Monica beach area?

I was wondering, what's the best place to park if I just want to go for a 5-10 mile run along the coast?  Also, I've only been to Santa Monica on the weekends which was always packed, so it's hard for me to drive around and explore the are more.  Is the traffic still bad during the weekdays around 10am-2pm?

Back in the day, you could just troll around the Speedway in Venice, or along Abbott Kinney Blvd, and find a free spot. But nowadays, everything is metered. You might as well just park in the pay lot by the pier.

To get there, take Ocean Ave east to Seaside Terrace, then make a right. Then another quick right, and you'll go under the pier.

There's free parking west of the pier, if you can find any. Start around California Ave and 2nd street, and start looking.

I would park down in Venice Beach area and run from there up through Santa Monica and maybe a bit into Malibu before turning around. That should cover your 5-10 mile run and not have you looking for near non existent parking in Santa Monica.

Yes, parking around the pier is very difficult. There are some garages over on 3rd Avenue,but if you are willing to run on say a Tuesday at 10;00 am I suspect you will be able to find some closer parking.
