Home building company forgets to include my option?
Not sure how to put it into a topic. Anyways, we purchased a brand new home back in July and we had agreed to add a french door (it's in the contract). However, the interior designer forgot to include that in design addendum; hence when we did the home inspection, we found out we'll be getting a sliding door vs. french door...and yes, it's a big deal because that's one of the major reasons why we purchased that home.
The contractor said it can't be replaced since they have built the foundation and it's pretty much settled. It will cost more money and time to repair it.
We have signed the french door agreement since day 1. How do you normally resolve this? If this can't be done, is it reasonable to ask for credits because they don't deliver?

What the contractor is telling you is not true. He just doesn't want to change it.
It is his mistake and you need to stick to your contract.
It can be changed very easily, although it will be a considerable expense to him. He can use the
sliding door in another house. If you have not moved in yet, have your lawyer withhold monies
until it is changed. Do NOT sign off anything.

It sounds like the contractor may be blowing smoke. I suggest you get a second opinion on whether the door can be replaced since the contractor seems to see it as a lot of extra work that he doesn't want to do. If it can be replaced then talk to the contractor and make sure it is done. If the contractor refuses and it is still extremely important to you, then you have a choice to make; seek a refund or take the home builder to court. Just by telling the homebuilder you intend to sue may change his mind. Hopefully the judge will order the builder to install the door. The worst that can happen is you will receive a refund on that part of your contract.
