A while ago I posted this question. Have you had this experience?
This happened in Miami, Florida. I am a dark skinned black female. I was helping a relative move.
One night I parked my relatives' car across the family's street. Then walked into the lot and opened my the door to my rental. I took boxes out of the car. Because of experiences I've had in Florida in the past - I was wearing a regular blouse and slacks. No jeans, because casual dress results in very negative responses - especially in towns like Miami.
A young Hispanic male approached me along with a very young girl. I thought she might be 6 or so.
The young man asked "Is this your car?" I replied "Yes"
He asked me again "Is this your car?" I replied again "Yes"
Then he said "no, because first you came out of that car and now you're in this one."
I replied "If you think I'm doing something wrong with this car, call the police." and started to walk away.
He started to say something else. I interrupted him and said again but loudly "If you think I'm doing something wrong with this car, call the police"
The young girl yelled loudly at me. "*****!"
I looked at her and said "No, YOU"RE the *****!"
The young man Hispanic male looked at me and said "Shut the f** up. We have the right to know what's going on in our neighborhood."
My response was "I have to shut the f** up? I didn't come into YOUR world demanding answers from you. I was minding my own business."
My impression of this situation is that: If one is black in Florida - it's apparently our responsibility to answer to the interrogations of any Hispanic males that happen by.
Has anyone had this experience?
