I just found a big hard lump in my bikini area?

Just felt a big 1.5cm hard lump under my pubic area and am super scared!

It is not red, you can't see it from the outside, it is too big to be an ingrown hair and it doesn't move around or hurt either (maybe a tiny!! bit uncomfortable).

I think it's too far under the skin to simply try and pop it. It is more elongated instead of round.

Really freaking out here that it could be cancer. Anyone else had this problem and got medical advice on it??

It's not likely to be a tumor.

It could be a swollen node, they're all over the body; even in the groin. I once had a swollen lymph node in my groin, the swelling went down after four or five days. I currently have a swollen node behind my ear and both the lymph nodes under my jaw are enlarged. Enlarged nodes are typically a sign of your body fighting an infection or some kind of irritation near the node.

It could also be a sebaceous, aka epidermoid cyst. Sebaceous cysts are a build up of keratin, a kind of protein, that for whatever reason builds up and forms a hard ball under the skin. The cysts are usually caused by damage to the skin or hair follicle. Shaving, tweezing, or waxing could cause irritation and damage to the follicle, resulting in a cyst. They can also be caused by ingrown hairs sometimes. These cysts are extremely common and they can form practically anywhere on the body, with the exception of the palms and soles. I've had a few on my labia, mostly from shaving, and a couple on my hip. I seem to be prone to them, so I've become somewhat of an expert.

DO NOT -- squeeze, lance (stabbing it), or try to pop it. Don't confuse it with a pimple because if you do anything more to irritate it, it can become infected, making it swollen and quite painful.

If it becomes infected, there's a minute possibility of an abscess, which is extremely serious and would require immediate treatment.

If it's not infected, you can have a doctor remove it by making a very small incision at the site and extracting the hardened keratin. Or you can try an at home remedy of using a hot compress (washcloth soaked in hot water), put directly on the site. You can use a heating pad, but the hot water seems to work best. You can also take hot baths often. The heat will help the build up of keratin to dissipate a little.

In the event it does become infected, use the hot compress to help drain the pus and keratin, and keep the area clean.

Wearing cotton underwear and non-restrictive clothing really helps to avoid these cysts, so I recommend that as well.

If you have any further questions about sebaceous cysts, there's many sites online that will give you some more info.

I know my answer's quite long, but hopefully it helps you and relieves your fear of it being a tumor.
