Type 99 Arisaka Bolt Question?
Not sure if this is normal for bolts on Type 99 Arisakas or any Arisaka for that matter. But when I slide the bolt forward to close it, it will stop which then I have to push it forward because of what I assume is the spring inside the bolt about a 1/8" inch, then close it. It doesn't just slide forward to the receiver to where you close it easily like other bolt actions.
The gun and the bolt definitely need cleaning and this could be the issue. Never have took the bolt apart either mainly because I didn't know much about the gun or bolt to do so (have recently watched videos about taking the bolt apart and reassembly). Anyone know what the issue is, if any?
Thanks
Lime Green Medic, how do you know? Also thank you all for the answers.

A bolt action rifle, in process of cycling the bolt, c0cks the action. Some c0ck on opening, like the Mauser, and some c0ck on closing, like the SMLE enfield.
Those which c0ck on closing use the forward push of the bolt to engage the sear just as the bolt is closed, that 1/8" of an inch you talk about. That's all it is. Normal.
Be careful with that Arisaka. Not exactly a common rifle anymore and getting parts for it could be...problematic.
Go ahead, ask me how I know.
Edited to add:
When we had one in the shop we had to order parts for it. And for some of those parts, there were none to order and had to be made in-house by the gunsmith, using the broken parts as a template.
So yeah. Familiar with that process. It's even worse for the Nambu.

Normal for all Arisaka rifles. What's happening is the sear on the trigger is engaging the cocking piece
in the bolt.

Completely normal function as the cocking occurs on closing. I double checked this on my Arisaka just to make sure I remembered it correctly.
