food prices is up the butt and i lost my job, and since i have no income (unemployment got cut drastically and so it was stopped all together and i have no kids, the dhs office only gave me 72 bucks a month....i was like really? i do cook homecooked meals if the 72 bucks permits .......i try to eat as healthy as possible.....our country helps illegals and folks from out the country but a US born citizen /woman with no kids can barely get any help so she can eat.....wth, we help everyone with kids out of wedlock that they keep popping out and cant afford......how does a single woman get a food stamp increase? my cousin who is a male gets more than me, and he doesnt have any kids nor does he pay rent......

Update:

folks who hate the truth ALWAYS say someone is complaining or being judgmental....

Update 2:

I don't think the system is always run effectively, either. I know alot of young single people and elderly who do what they can and struggle, while irresponsible parents sit at home with adequate food stamps and cable TV. (Though this doesn't mean every family on assistance is taking advantage of things, of course.)

When I first got married, we were on assistance(I brought a child to the relationship). As soon as our status hit married, they chopped our benefits in half. In trying to budget, I had to come up with new cooking methods. This is what has worked for my household(my husband, my 7 year old son, the soon to be son, and I):

We shop once a week at the farmer's market. We spend no more than 20 dollars(this can be adjusted for number of people, money available). We do not buy meat, or ANY convienience foods(freezer dinners, pizzas, easy prepare noodle dishes). Initially, they seem cheap, but they add up.

I have a simple recipe book for ideas that I tweak to suite what I have available. A beans and rice recipe can easily be changed to noodles and pasta, for example. I decide what I'm going to make the day before, and pick up the extra ingredients on the way from taking my husband to work. Because we do not use convienience foods, we have many staples, and we seldom spend more than a buck or two a day on groceries, if we need to spend anything at all.

I don't think there is any way to get your food stamps increased unless your cut your income, sadly, though that would be counterproductive. I hope some of my ideas may be able to help, as providing food is getting tougher and tougher.

    Good luck!

well you certainly have time to complain. I hope you are at a library and aren't paying for internet. But if you are at a library you aren't using the resources to their full potential.
