How to prevent depression?

Hello, last year i got depressed over the early winter for a few months. It really sucked and i can't believe i survived it. But now im really happy, and enjoying summer.

I think i got depressed last year because i was overwhelmed with school work and spent most of the time inside doing homework actually caring about my grades lol. Also since it was winter the days were shorter and i think thats also why. I was unsocial and constantly tired and sad and didnt tolerate people much.

Is there a way to prevent this without slacking in school because honestly, the amount of HW i got just killed me and turned me into a hermit. Do you think i have S.A.D (Seasonal Affective Disorder) because this happened in the early winter before the winter solstice? Although i never was depressed before that and my winters were much enjoyed.

P.S. Im 16, do you think it had to do with my horomones too? lol.

Family history? My father was depressed in his life too but he also has PTSD so idk. Its just my father that has it, no one else.

One of the most important things to prevent depression is to recognize triggers. If you typically feel better in the summer months than you do in the winter you may be right that it might be S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder). Talk to your doctor about this. He/she can give you suggestions on ways to keep yourself healthy. They could also check to see if there something secondary going on, like a hormonal imbalance. Diet and excercise are crucial. You may also want to look into light therapy. Some light boxes (which mimic sunlight) are covered by insurance. You could have the light box on the table while you are working on your homework. Calling a hotline may also e helpful. The counselors will speak with you about your feelings, listen to what you have to say, and will treat you with respect and courtesy.

Good for you for being proactive and for reaching out for help.

    You are not alone.

First of all u need to understand that life is not only about homework and studies .. There is more to life than just dat .. I think u need to start a hobby or do anything u love and if u think u aren't being social enough then u need to take the initiative to go over to ppl rather than waiting for them to ask u over
