Parakeets or Zebra Finches?
I'm a 14 year old first time bird owner and I couldn't decide between so many birds to get, but I think I like parakeets and zebra finches even though they are really different. If I got a parakeet I want one so that I can bond with it. If I got a zebra finch I would get two.
I like parakeets because they are cute and colorful and you bond with them. I love how you can teach them tricks and hang out with them.
I like zebra finches because they are cute and a lot easier to care for
I know that you have to spend a lot of time with parakeets in order to bond with it. Also, since they are smart birds they know when you spend less time with them and they get angry. I would love to bond with my bird, but I'm afraid I might not have enough time. My parents are divorced and I live with my Mom most of the time and visit my Dad every other weekend. So I would have time to play with the bird every single day except for two days every other week. I don't know if this is bad. Can the bird be without me for two days every other week? (My Mom can feed it obviously, I don't know if she would play with it).
I like zebra finches because you don't need to train them or spend time with them. You can just talk to them and they would be happy. But I don't know if I might get annoyed with their constant beeping noises. I also think they would be a lot easier to care for.
I am so torn on which bird I should get, and I obviously want it to have the best life with me it can have. I just don't know which one is right for me. I would love to bond with a cute little parakeet, but I'm worried I might not have enough time. Also I can't bond with the zebra finches but they are easier to care for.
Please help

You certainly sound like you're ready for a bird! :) I would suggest getting a budgie (all budgies are parakeets but not all parakeets are budgies; budgies are just one type of parakeet). They are wonderful little birds to have! Really the big difference in care is that you have to play with the budgie while the finches will have each other. Being gone two days every other week is fine as long as it's being fed during that time (which it will be as you mentioned). Your mother doesn't have to play with it during those days, but I would suggest having her let it out to get some exercise while you're away since they need to be let out at least once per day for an hour or so. But missing one day every now and then won't kill it. They are a joy to have and while finches are fun to watch, you just can interact with them. Budgies are equally fun to watch as they play with toys and act silly! If you find you don't have enough time to spend with your budgie, you can always buy another one to keep it company and train them both (I would suggest getting two males). If you want to try to teach it to talk, get a male (it's not a guarantee but it will maximize your chances). I hope I helped, good luck!!

Well I'm a first time bird owner too and I got a parakeet! PERFECT CHOICE IN MY OPINION! You can teach this bird so much! I already taught it how to say "Pretty bird" and play soccer and how to kiss my finger. And how to land on my shoulder and walk onto my finger....yadda yadda yadda! Get a parakeet in my opinion. They are only about 10-15 dollars. (Mine was 13) The cage is whats so expensive (50-150 dollars) Parakeets are so loyal and awesome! GET A PARAKEET!

if you don't have time to spend with your bird zebra finch. If you want a joyful one that actually cares about you parakeet.
