How can I properly send photo via computer?

I scanned a photo into my computer, and then via attachment to an email,

sent it out. The recipient said he couldn't see it(?) because it wasn't sent

in a PDF format(?).

Obviously he and I are almost totally ignorant concerning the machinations

of computer software.

How can I alter the photo into a proper format so that it can be seen at the receiving end?

Am I making any sense??...;-)

Thanks one and all

Update:

Pavel, sounds like you know what you're "talking" about.

But I don't know if my son, who received the photo, is willing to down load

the program you recommended to "unlock"(?) the photo/file.

I'll take to him in a few hours...but thanks.

It may be a compatibility problem, generally, the photo you scanned is saved as an image, the most used is .tiff, which can not be opened with a pdf reader like Adobe Reader, and sometimes the default image viewer cannot open .tiff either.

    There are two ways:

    1. you can scan the file to .pdf format if only your scanner supports PDF format and you can choose that format to save the scanned files.

    2. if your scanner does not support .pdf file, you can convert the scanned image to pdf format with a pdf creator like pdf creator lite, which i am using right now, and it is free to use.

it is a bit late, but hope this helps anyway, good luck. if you have any more questions, please contact me :)

Well it depends, what format is it now?

To check, right click on the photo and click properties

IT should be under "type of file"

if it says .jpg or .png then its a regular photo

You know what else it could be? When you email it, your email might have compressed the image.

And the person receiving it might need to "uncompress it"

to check if it was compressed, ask the person to right click the picture, go to properties

and if it says ".zip file" next to "type of file" then that means its compressed.

To uncompress it, they can use a free program called "7-zip"

Another way to send an image through email is to upload it to an image hosting site, like imgur then put the link in the email.
