Would Africa be better off if Europeans had maintained control over the continent?

On the contrary, I strongly believe Africa would have been better off if Europeans had never tried to maintain control of it in the first place.

What positive benefits, if any, did Africa reap from the control Europe tried to maintain of it? Secondly, if Africans havent the head for self-governance (which is exactly what this question is implying), then what is to be said of Europe's glaring failure in that endeavor?

Believe it or not, quite a few (sub-Saharan/black) Africans (especially those with a Christian background) would like to see Europeans return. I have several African friends (mostly Congolese living in Belgium) and they harbor very little animosity toward Europeans for what happened during colonial times. And they despise Islam just as much as any sane European does. Plenty of common ground to work with.

I am sure the locals would love to be treated as second class citizens in their own countries.
