Well...what the hell's going wrong at Alberton?
After a dream 5-0 start we've slumped to 5-5 and our season is now on the ropes. Don't know what the problem is, anyone have any ideas. We got a bye next week then GWS...before a nightmare run of Sydney, Collingwood, Essendon and Hawthorn.
Our poor starts have cost us too many times this year, our first quarter was good tonight but the second half was honestly disgraceful. I don't know what the problem is but everything's turning to sh!t at Alberton.
@shifty, John Butcher? He could barely get a kick in the SANFL this year and they decided to bring him up to the AFL for no earned reason. He had a shocker against Geelong, kicking two absolute mongrel kicks out on the full and another time he took a mark inside 50 and wasn't game enough to have a shot so he passed it off to Schulz who then miss. And last night in Darwin he was given the red vest.
@chrisarrow, true. We got off to a flyer but yeah not much was ever expected of us. We're only half way through the season, still time to get back on track.
@ Kurt Tippet Society, was thinking that myself. His misses against Carlton were critical and in Darwin last round he missed a goal that would have gotten us within a kick in the last two minutes. BTW are you taking a shot at me with that username???

Yeah it seems your Port boys have run out of steam after their dream start! Like I said before... you can't rely on playing on emotion. Fresh faces and fresh legs can become stale very quickly. The season is long it takes a toll on the body and on the mind... But then again, that was one of those unusual games played in unusual circumstances. They should be fresh after the bye and and confident (after GWS) for their matches ahead. That's when the real test of their nerve begins.

Come on they were projected to be bottom 4, but had a nice opening to the season.
Like yesterday, you faced a club with similar expectations, but like you guys earlier the Doggies have a little run of form, while Port is flat.
So take the win v GWS. Then the correct strategy would be to rest players in and out of the side for 4 weeks. Then you can look for a few more wins. 8-9 wins would be good for this side

It's what happens when teams improve and players improve - other coaches start to take note and break down their plans and idiosyncrasies. They put a lot of effort into understanding how to beat them.
You see this all the time with players who jump out of the blocks and the next week they've got the hard tag or they just can't seem to get the hand pass to their favourite spot.
For example, you can bet last year Geelong wouldn't have given much thought to how to beat Port - it was gonna happen. But you can bet this year there was some serious video watching happening in the lead up to that game.
Of course the draws getting harder too but you still can't call the dogs a top team.

Things are not all that bad at Port they have unearthed some great talent Jake Neade this season being one of them. but as you would be well aware it takes a few seasons for these young talented kids. to build their bodies up to the level required to see out a whole game of footy.
Could you please tell me what the story is with John Butcher. i haven't been able to keep up with as much footy as i would have liked this season. but i do have a certain amount of interest in this young players progress.
Cheers.
Edit} thanks for the info on J.B, H.H. reason for the interest is because Carlton was interested in him during trade period. remember! i'm sure that he will come good soon with some good encouragement from the trainers at Alberton. i reckon a run on the backline for a while might be just the thing for young J.B. it's done wonders for Lauchie Henderson at Carlton.

It's basically Port been brought back to where they really are. They had a very soft opening start to the season, save Adelaide and at a stretch, West Coast.

Angus Monfries must of brought over the curse from Essendon (and maybe some peptides too).
