Why is dammit, dammit and not damn it?
Based on the context, damn it is correct and dammit is just a made-up word by people who did not understand its meaning.
(car doesn't start)
"Damn it" as in.. damn this car. Same as "Damn you" but identifying the car as an "it" rather than a living thing.
Why is dammit, dammit and not ALWAYS damn it or more correctly, damnit?*

Both mean the same. They are a condemnation of without the defamation against the deity. People who use and say it as "Damn it" are better educated and like to show it with proper enunciation or pronunciation. However, the word "dammit" is said by both the educated and the less educated. Good luck.

It's the same reason "sunava" means the same thing as "son of a". It's just to make the language flow a bit smoother, and to make the profanity a bit less, well, profane. If you say "damn it", you're clearly swearing; but "dammit" just sounds neater.
