Do most South Koreans say South Korea or just Korea?

Spoke with someone from South Korea and he said both South Korea or Korea. Context didn't matter because we never brought up any topics regarding North Korea.

I assume that people who say Korea figure everyone knows it means South Korea, but people do say South Korea even in obvious context.

I can understand when talking about North Korea, you say North Korea. When discussing North and South you make it clear which you're talking about, but when people say "I'm from Korea" I know they mean South.

    Your observation is correct.

North Koreans are not allowed to live outside their country, otherwise they get killed. So rarely you will meet North Korean citizens (unless they are defectors or spies). You can assume that most will be from South.

You're right. When a person says that he's Korean he generally means that he is a South Korean. People say South Korea when they are talking about both the nations of the Korean Peninsula. They DO need to differentiate the 2 nations. We can't call North Korea "Kim's Playground". LOL

Personally I tell people that I'm Korean, but that usually leads to the other person looking at me with wide eyes and asking "North or South" as if I have a nuclear weapon in my back pocket. This is usually followed with me flipping the table and utilizing a fearsome Falcon Punch on the person.

This is because North Koreans can easily escape their country in large numbers. And because your chances of meeting an actual North Korean are just as high as meeting a South Korean national.

They say korean. That's why it's stupid of Americans to call North Korea , "Korea". But a lot of Americans don't even know te difference.

I usually say "I'm from Korea," assuming people would know I'm SOUTH Korean. Apparently, Americans don't have common sense.

Most people say "I am Korean", but they live in "South Korea".

It doesn't matter what side of the DMZ they come from. A Korean is a Korean.
