Now since you need a doctrate degree and pass an exam to be a physical therapist, would you get paid more?

PT is now a clinical doctorate(a DPT not a PhD) You have always had to pass a licensing exam. I can't say you get more money for having a doctorate. However, there is more of a demand for PTs. The DPT has limited the number of students graduating every year. That demand has lead to things like sign on bonuses, help with student loans, and increase dollars to attract therapist to places where the demand is greater. There are also new medicare rules that require a need for more therapist which has also lead to more of a shortage.

I guess having a physical therapist degree is enough to get a good living.

A PT doesn't have a doctorate (PhD). They have a professional degree. A PhD requires far more than just an exam, it requires original, publishable research making new contributions to the field. The professional degree in PT would qualify you for jobs you couldn't get without that degree, and they may or may not pay more than other jobs, depending on what they are. Earning a professional degree or PhD doesn't mean you automatically make more money.
