AR-15 Parts & Accessories Question?
Are all parts and accessories universal? Also, what AR-15 do you recommend buying? I'm not sure where things are going with the ban of these so called "assault rifles", but I want to get one just in case.

99% of AR-15 parts are universal. There are a couple of exceptions, such as collaspsible buttstocks. The buffer tube (tube onto which the stock mounts) come in two diameters, referred to as mil-spec and commercial spec. Commercial spec is just a little wider, so if you have a commercial tube you need a commercial buttstock. Either will fit on a mil-spec tube, but a commercial stock on a mil-spec tube will have some play and a definite rattle. Despite the names, there is zero quality difference between the two. The two types are threaded the same, so any buffer tube will work for any lower receiver.
I'm a big fan of building your own AR instead of buying something off-the-shelf. Especially during the current gun panic, you'll save yourself some money by buying in pieces. If you're worried about the ban, then the lower receiver should be your first priority. This piece has the serial number on it, so in the eyes of the ATF, that piece is the "gun," and everything else is just parts. You can actually have every other piece mailed to your house with no FFL required.
As for brands, there's not as much difference as you might think--and usually, there's no difference. The reality is that most of the parts come from one of a few major manufacturers, and get the names of the various companies stamped onto them. See my link below for a better explanation. FYI, all the brands' parts will fit all the other brands. For example, you can have an upper receiver and lower receiver made by different companies with no problems. Some people will rumor about "tolerances," I haven't found a noticeable difference.
Building an AR isn't scary. A few very basic tools and a couple of YouTube videos will teach you everything you need to know. Whether you buy complete or build your own, check out www.ar15.com for some basic knowledge and terminology before you buy. If you buy a complete upper, a complete lower, a bolt carrier assembly, and a charging handle, then you can put them all together with no tools and have a complete rifle.
Regarding brands, I have two ARs. One is a DS Arms upper and lower, and it works very well. Never a single malfunction or misfire. The other is a DS Arms upper and a Rock River Arms lower. The lower was purchased "stripped," and I stuffed it with DPMS parts. It works equally well so far, but is much newer and has not been shot much.

How plenty is 'much less costly'? in case you sya below $six hundred I say you're able to shop you money. no longer even Spikes Tactical is way less costly sufficient for you. as a results of fact to get a stable one your going to could spend a minimum of $800 if no longer $a million,000 for the greater high quality agencies. development you're able to shop you a great deal of money in case you in undemanding terms purchase an entire decrease and purchase the decrease receiver and areas that flow on and in it seperatley.
