IMO, based on some experience, and logic, Yamaha's low end receivers have to cut a lot of corners to hit the price point.
It won't have the power of the mid range line (and up.) In theory the power difference is minimal. In practice the power supply is lightweight and you will probably notice that it runs out of power.
Problem is that it gets expensive to ensure you don't run out of power (IMO you are looking at Yamaha's pricey models.) It might work just fine for you. Just know that this receiver is not a powerhouse.

As far as Home Theater in a Box products go...It's a decent set-up. Rather than the standard HTiB products...this one actually uses a real receiver with normal connections so that you can upgrade all of the components as time goes on. Basically - this is a package deal for the Yamaha rx-v473 5.1 receiver...with a matched set of speakers and sub.
Now - The receiver is actually a fairly good one. It is available separately from Amazon and many other stores for around $300 USD. It has good room calibration software and supports all of the latest features. As far as power goes...80w per channel isn;t bad (considering thats at 6 Ohms...it's actually a little highe paired with 8 Ohm speakers).
The speakers on the other hand are only so-so. I'm not a fan of Yamaha speakers...and you can usually find much better Polks, Klipsch etc in the same price range. Depending on what this whole set-up is costing (you didn't mention the price)...you may be better off picking up the receiver and then picking up a nicer 5.1 Speaker package. I would suggest the Energy Take Classic 5.1, The Polk RM570 or JBL Cinema 300.

The short answer is "Yes, that package is perfectly good for movies and music".
Here's an interesting discussion with a good bit of technical info, but much of it was over my head. I'm no audiophile.

If the field is categorised as a house theater gadget, it regularly means that it is composed of the audio gadget. If the field is purely categorised as a get carry of, it regularly does not comprise the audio gadget. in spite of everything the packaging might desire to make it sparkling if audio gadget are secure. till you're finding to spend $seven hundred+ on a mid to severe end gadget, your suitable guess is greater often than not to get a gadget that is composed of each and every thing in one kit. quite some the convenience that comes from getting issues seperatetly comes from that certainty that quite some the severe end abode theater kit regularly does not come packaged at the same time.
