Christians only... No, I'm not an atheist challenging your faith...?

I'm a Christian too, and I'm simply curious. Nothing more. No you-know-your-mom-was-a-monkey crap.

We know each book of the bible is inspired by God, written consistently over the course of thousands of years, and we know each book is consistent to the previous ones. Another fact is, we know some prophecies have come true that weren't supposed to come true until recent centuries (Holocaust, for example). It's also true that modern-day evangelists, like Rob Bell and Billy Graham, have had lives similar to those of the apostles, whose stories were continued well into the ending books.

All of this having been said... Wouldn't it make sense to add more books, showing fulfilled prophecies and the continuation of important missionaries? This question would be assuming that someone was being led by God to write such a thing.

What do you think?

Actually what we have in our Bibles is enough as shown by God's Words in:

Revelation 22:18,19 - “I am bearing witness to everyone that hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone makes an addition to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this scroll; and if anyone takes anything away from the words of the scroll of this prophecy, God will take his portion away from the trees of life and out of the holy city, things which are written about in this scroll."

There are still prophecies that are being fulfilled in our time or will be fulfilled in the the very near future that we keep on the look-out for. For that reason we are encouraged to study the Bible carefully and keep on the watch as to the fulfillment of these prophecies that signal the end of this wicked system and the start of Jesus' rule under God's Kingdom. What the Bible contains is more than enough for us, but we need to study, meditate and keep on the watch.

Matthew 11:15- "Let him that has ears listen."

Habakkuk 2:3- "For [the] vision is yet for the appointed time, and it keeps panting on to the end, and it will not tell a lie. Even if it should delay, keep in expectation of it; for it will without fail come true. It will not be late."

Zephaniah 3:8- “‘Therefore keep yourselves in expectation of me,’ is the utterance of Jehovah, ‘till the day of my rising up to [the] booty, for my judicial decision is to gather nations, for me to collect together kingdoms, in order to pour out upon them my denunciation, all my burning anger; for by the fire of my zeal all the earth will be devoured. "

I am not trying to challenge your faith, just your adherence to the strict interpretation of the Bible. Christ Himself called those of His day who interpreted the Scriptures literally a "brood of vipers". He said by their strict adherence to the "letter of the Law" (which is the Scriptures) they overlooked the meaning of the Law. There is far, far more to the Bible than the trivia of Christ's genealogy or whether or not Adam and Eve were actual people. I had a grand awakening to that with the story of Adam and Eve. I had always dismissed it as an ancient oral tradition that disagreed with the creation story in Genesis 1. It has just been recently that I have discovered the depth of truth in the story.... not in its details of who said what, but rather the realization that it is speaking about the fact that man became fully human when he developed a conscience (ate from the tree of Knowledge of good and evil), and that from that conscience flowed our free will. The entire purpose of life is spelled out behind the lines in that story. This is something that I missed for years because I was too busy concentrating on trivia.

I don't think we need any latter day prophets adding to the Bible. We do have lot's of Christian writers that have some very good writings based on the Bible and I don't have a problem with that. I use a study Bible and I love the comments in it. Do you know of any one that feels they are being led to add to the Bible and would you trust them to do it?

The Bible already covers the 7,000 years from the Creation to the end of the Millennium. That's past, present and future for us. Perhaps someday there will be a third testament written for the sake of those who live in the Millennium. But that is, as you hint at, the Lord's decision. What you or I see as making sense may just be superfluous to God.

You need to understand what is the main topic of the bible.

The main topic is God´s kingdom.....and Jesus as the king set by God to rule the earth.

The whole bible ....the OT talk about the promised Messiah and the Kingdom and the NT complete the information.

The Quran and the Book of Mormon are both books claiming to be written by one man 'inspired' by one angel. The JW's have their own book too.

The running theme of all of them is that Jesus is not God.

As long as the divinity of Christ is the running theme in inspired writings, then I don't see a problem.... but we need to clarify it doesn't put them in the same league as canonized scripture.

Edit: For those suggesting a book is 'adding to scripture'.... what about C.S.Lewis? Soren Kirkagaard? Or Rick Warren? I guess they should never be read, huh...? Maybe we shouldn't paraphrase anything from scripture either..... Oooof.

    The Books are closed...

The last 3 verses in the Bible close the books...

    Revelation 22

[18] For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

[19] And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

[20] He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

    We are continuing it actually..

But not to the point to add books.

We continue in Acts. All of the letters and the four gospels had a closing statement, except for Acts.

We continue.. Not just as apostles or disciples, or servants or friends of God.

But as sons and daughters first and foremost.

It would be fine as long as these books were not added to the Bible. God told us not to do that. Having said that I disagree with you on who is and is not a true evangelist and I am sure there are other things we'd disagree on as well.

No need to add more books to the Bible. It's complete as it is. For more information about what is going on today, all you have to do is read some testimonies or autobiographies which I have read a lot of and they are very inspirational.
