Does everything we do have the ultimate purpose of living and improving our life?
We eat to live; we do not live to eat. Similarly, we breathe in order to live; we think, we work, we study, we fight and we seek love and friendship in order to live and to improve our life. From the second that we wake up in the morning, our attention aims at one and only purpose: living and bettering our lives. Can you think of a human activity or an action, other than suicide, that, like life, is an end in itself and not an end for living?
Kuve ----- So, what do you think the people who have gone astray have in mind for the purpose of their actions? Could it be that they BELIEVE that smoking, drinking and taking drugs is a way to escape the pain and emptiness of their own bad thinking about their lives? And thus, do they not hope, by indulging in those actions, to achieve an improved state of their life, if only temporarily? The ultimate purpose of their actions is still the same as it is for those who carefully watch that everything they put in their body is pure, nutritious and health-promoting. Everyone has the same purpose, but some are simply mistaken in their choice of means to achieve a joyful, meaningful life. .

Look at the world around us and many of the people in it, slaves to their appetites, to popular opinion, and to instant gratification even if it ruins their health and the world around them. While it can be argued that everything we do should have the purpose you describe, the evidence of our own eyes will prove that it the bulk of cases it doesn't.
