Can I get my jewlery wet?

My grandmother left me a gold braclet with X's and O's on it that I would prefer not to take off. Unfortunately like every other human being I swear, shower, and was my hands. I don't know if it's real gold or not but it came in a red velvet thing that says 'Fine Gold Jewelry' with a barcode on the back reading 645240. If you know anything about it I'd appreciate it, thank you.

Try taking it off when you go for a shower! Even if it is real gold, when you shampoo your hair, the chemicals will touch your bracelet and this could damage it.

To be on the safe side, remove it and wear it after your shower!

Better to be safe than sorry!

You know you can't even damage gold with nearly any type of acid? Almost nothing affects gold. If you spill mercury on it, it will turn the gold's surface into a silvery gold amalgam. Or if you put it in a mixture of hydrochloric and nitric acid, it will dissolve. But, in any normal situation NOTHING will affect it.

You should take it to a jeweler. They will tell you if it is real or not. No charge. That will be the only way to be certain.
