Odd angel fish behavior?

I have a 20 gal tank with angel fish, one of them has started laying on the bottom of the tank, actually I thought he was dead. Another fish bumped him as I was getting the net and he moved. I quarantined him and he is doing just fine.The odd thing is he does this at feeding time. I had a gold fish growing up that would play dead like this when he was hungry and he lived for several years with no issues to speak of. Is this just a way to say hey feed me like our gold fish many years back or is there something else I need to look for?

I always siphon the water, keep up with the filter,ph, water heater, etc. and have been keeping aquarium fish for years, just never kept angel fish before now... Thanks

Sorry the ph is 6.9 water temp is 80 degrees

Update 2:

My nitrate and nitrite levels re at 0. And I've only had him for two weeks.

    You can start angelfish out in a twenty gallon but as soon as they are as big as a quarter(body) it's time to get them out into a larger and taller tank. A 55 gallon is a good size to have them in along with others or a community tank. If he doesn't have any wounds or fungus on the outside, he may have internal parasites. Or if he has gotten too big already or his growth is stunned, he may not recover. How long have you had him in the tank will determine that. More than 6 months????

    BTW: Angels live up to 10 years and maybe a few more if kept properly. You can successfully house and breed a pair in a 29 gallon.

    Angel fish need a 30 gallon tank for 1 and how many have you in a 20 gallon tank ?

    Angel fish do not play dead .Goldfish should live at least 30-40 years .

    What are your readings in this tank .So Ammonia Nitrite and Nitrate ?

    Edit..Ph is not important but your Ammonia and Nitrite readings are???
