How do I join my areas Police Explorer Post?

I am a 14 year old and I have always wanted to become a police officer. When I figured out that I would barely made any money and had to be tasered in order to become an officer, I quickly lost interest. My passion just recently came back for wanting to become a police officer because after I gave up my dream of becoming an officer, I wanted to be an anesthesiologist, then an internist, and finally a pharmacist because they make a lot of money and if you work in the medical field, you have a better chance of getting a job. After thinking it over I just couldn't see myself working in the medical field. I wanted a job that made a lot of money because my family is struggling right now and barely making ends meet, so I wanted to never have to want for something and be able to help others. I now see that it is not always about the money. I want a job that won't feel like a job and something that I would enjoy doing every day. After doing some research, I found out about Police Explorer Posts. I searched many times to find out how I could join my areas Post, but I could not find any information. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what I should do or who I should contact. Sorry for it being so long and any help is greatly appreciated. I would greatly appreciate it if you could leave your email address for me to further contact you if I need more help (I know this makes it sound like I'm some creepy pedophile but I assure you that I am not) but if you are not comfortable doing that then I'll just give you mine. Thank you so much again. :D

If you are interested in becoming a police officer, you should definitely become a law enforcement explorer if you can. Being a law enforcement explorer is great for youths that want to become police officers. You should check the websites of the law enforcement agencies in your area. If you can't find any information about explorer programs there, call your local police department, and ask to speak with someone. If they don't have an explorer program, ask them if any agencies in your area do. Your local sheriff's department or office or state police agency might have one you could join. Some federal agencies such as the Border Patrol also have explorer programs. Don't let possibly having to experience the Taser keep you from trying to become an officer if that is what you want to do. It is true that is is important that you enjoy your job. Law enforcement officer pay varies, sometimes a lot, depending on the agency. When considering pay, you should also consider benefits and cost of living. Focus on your education. Get the best grades that you can in school. Take classes that interest you, that will improve your writing skills, that require critical thinking, and that will prepare you for college. Definitely get a college degree. Getting a college degree is one of the best things that you can do. Many agencies require or prefer applicants to have college. Some agencies pay their officers more if they have a degree. Having a degree could also help you get promoted during your career. Best of luck!

Go to your local police dept and ask them if they have an Explorer program. Not all do. If they don't, ask if they know any in the local area that do. Some police depts are now offering a Citizen's Police Academy. These programs offer civilians an opportunity to learn about the inner workings of the police dept.
