Have you ever heard a cover version so bad you just want to cover it again to apologise to the original band?
I have many times, the most recent being "Pictures of Matchstick Men" by Status Quo which was horrendously covered by Camper Van Beethoven in the 80s. I've only just heard it but it was pants and I felt like the song needed to be done again to make it right.

Smells Like Teen Spirit in Moulin Rouge (the Muppets version was fine)
Light My Fire - pretty much every cover of it...

Have you ever had this feeling? What song was it?
I have heard Miley Cyrus' version of Teen Spirit actually, but just forgot about it. The Moulin Rouge version stuck in my craw more than that one. Take That or some other boy band covered it once as well and that was stunning in its ineptitude.

I actually don't think the remakes of pictures of matchstick men or tainted love are that bad (even though I'm not really a fan of either CVB or MM)
Although not really a remake (just a sample), Puff Daddy's "I'll be missing you" has a god awful version of "every breath you take" by the Police. I feel like going on a rampage when I heart that stupid song.

Sorry I'm not going to add much to this as can't think of much at present besides Matt Cardle trashing Biffy's Many of Horror. I actually like the Travis cover that the person above has said. I think covers are sometimes more acceptable if they are a slowed down version of a disco song. Johnny Cash's One (from U2) is almost a whole new song the way he pours his heart into it. On the other hand that Josh Stone song you mention Fell in Love with a Girl, someone should have had the decency to tell her what a pile of poop that sounded before she inflicted it on the world.

You don't know **** about bad song covers until you've heard Miley Cyrus doing Smells Like Teen Spirit.
Also, I actually enjoyed MM's cover of Tainted Love.

I once had the misfortune to find on YouTube, the band "Travis" doing a cover of Britney Spears songs at a concert......... brace yourself...
