Good books or novellas from 19th century?

Hello,

does anyone know some good books or novellas which play in 19th century or which were written in that time? I don't like fantasy stories (except from ones with vampires; I love vampires). I'm a German English-learner, but my language skills are pretty good for my age, so the books don't have to be for beginners.

- Bram Stoker: "Dracula"

- Bram Stoker: "Dracula's Guest"

- Bram Stoker: "The Lair of the White Worm"

- Bram Stoker: "The Jewel of Seven Stars"

- Charles Dickens: "A Christmas Carol"

- Charles Dickens: "David Copperfield"

- Charles Dickens: "Oliver Twist"

- Jane Austen: "Pride and Prejudice"

- Mary Shelley: "Frankenstein"

- Robert Louis Stevenson: "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde"

- Robert Louis Stevenson: "Treasure Island"

- Thomas Peckett Prest: "Varney, the Vampire or The Feast of Blood"

- E.A. Poe: "Selected Tales"

- Oscar Wilde: "The Picture of Dorian Gray"

- Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu: "Carmilla"

- John Polidori: "The Vampyre"

You could read more Jane Austen- 'Mansfield Park', 'Emma', 'Sense and Sensibility', 'Northanger Abbey', and 'Love and Friendship and other stories'

Also Elizabeth Gaskell- 'North and South' (great story), 'Wives and Daughters' etc...

The Bronte sisters, Oscar Wilde (The picture of Dorian Gray etc...), Charles Dickens (bleak house etc...)...

Maybe try Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice which is good, there are also sequels that I haven't read yet called The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned.

The Casebook of Victor Frankenstein by Peter Ackroy is another well written one.

Neither is written in the last century but both are set around that time, I'm fairly sure. It's been a while since I read them :)

The Brontes are great. If you're concerned about the English, I'd go for Anne Bronte over her sisters. Her writing is a bit simpler. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall or Agnes Grey.

I don't see any Jules Verne or H. G. Wells or Mark Twain on your list. Have at them.
