Will we recognize God if He came and stood before us as a human in form of a Prophet or an Avtaar?
All recent or past incarnations and prophets were recognised by a small handfull of people around them, not much of humanity. Many of them were actually persecuted. You know what happened to Jesus when He came last. Very few recognize them when such Prophets come. Buddha, Zorashtra were recognized by a few. Other incarnations like Raam, Krishna, Sikh Gurus and Mohammad even had to fight wars.
Only few hundred recognised Shirdi Sai Baba when He was still here. Even recently, few came to hear Him when He came as Sathya Sai, even when He showed miracles everday, often even hundreds of miles away.
Some foolish ones concort and fabricate stories about incarnations and malign them and those of us who are easily fooled fall for such rumours, instead of making an effort to know the truth for ourselves. Others seem to develop doubts due to these rumours and dont take the first step to even investigate the treasure thats at their doorstep.
When we pine for Him. When we search for Him, He shows Himself without fail, or delay. But we often fail to see His signs, desire must be pure and ardent and heart filled with peace and compassionate love. Sometimes, the lord Himself comes as a complete incarnate Avtaar, and sometimes He sends someone who is already close to Him to guide us. What is the difference? Only our outlook. We lack faith and openness of heart to even find out and seek, to evaluate for ourselves.
Saint Kabir said .."....khoji hoye turant mil jaun ek pal ki talash mein.....main toh hun vishwas mein....moko kahan doondhe re bande, main toh tere paas mein...". I can be found in a moment if you look for me with in yourselves with faith and confidence.

If we believe in soul,God is the Highest Soul. We can not see soul as we can not see air. But we feel air's presence . But it is difficult to feel soul's presence.Soul is non destructive. We can feel its presence if we have faith that it never destroys.Soul or Higher soul can not do any wonder without any substance or matter. So It takes the body in any form or sometimes THE GREATER SOUL talks through someone. God sends someone to convey THAT'S messages to us.
If we have faith ,definitely we feel the presence of God in any form. But the question is how is this faith built? Some believe blindly. That is why we should have the knowledge of Bhakti Yog &Gyan Yog together. We should know to surrender as well as why should we surrender-----then only ,I think we build the Faith.

I think many entities far lower than God can show themselves in human form. Even if they proclaim themselves God, why would you trust them? Only when they show signs and wonders that they control the elements and break the known laws of science should you believe that they have the power of God, and thus God. The question is: Why should a God even bother to appear in human form? The answer is: When God wants His people to approach and come close enough to embrace. Why would a God want take a true human form instead of just an appearance, a form that can be struck, spat on, insulted? It is so that God can experience and understand the human state in all its vulnerabilities, temptations, fears, and weaknesses, as well as its joys and triumphs, strengths and virtues. And from there, guide men on the road to enlightenment, nobility, and godhood.

Definition of GOD is same in all religious texts. Vedanta, the final philosophy of India says GOD is a thought and so we are GOD (Tat Twam Asi). GOD is good and so we see THAT in a Saint. As we are attached to society and family, we believe in our senses only and GOD has to take a human form.
I believe that a Yogi selfishly develops Energy by meditating alone. But he does not attain Moksha until he serves humanity and so takes birth again as Saint doing miracles from birth.

No we cannot be able to recognize God if He ever came down in human form.
As human beings we are unable to recognize the truth or perfection since both of these talents are beyond us. Our abilities cannot even recognize existence in totality let alone its creator. We can only recognize anything through the features that are familiar to us therefore these features that are foreign to our nature cannot translate any information of their beholder.

If you want visual answer to this question, I would suggest to watch movie KHICHADI to see how humans would typically respond.
Fun apart, only few recognize real AAVTARS or saints during their lifetime. Doesn't it look more like MAYA? And only few who are sublime enough to eliminate some fog of ignorance, could only see the reality.

Well first of all god wont come and show his presence easily , we should have done enough good deeds for that to see his vision . only then he shows his vision to us . but once god decided to show him , no matter whatever our standard and capacity is , he gives that power to know him and see him to whoever he wishes . its all depends on a persons fate and god's wish . .
Agree with kabir sayings ..

If you recognize him, he failed with the disguise and is not all that powerful, right? And if he wanted to be recognized, what would be the point of trying to appear as something he isn't to mislead you?
