Refined sugars are sugars that undergo a process known as sugar refining. During this process, the raw sugars are refined, or enhanced. The sucrose is extracted while other unwanted materials are discarded. Although refined sugars are believed by many to be the basic table sugar that we may add to coffee or tea, there are actually a number of different types.

    Examples?

Granulated sugar mostly used in tea or coffee or for baking

Sanding sugar used in cookie decoration

    Powdered sugar used in confectioneries.

    why they are bad?

Refined sugars are classified by some as poisons to the body. They provide only empty calories lacking in nutrients and minerals. In addition, they can drain the body of nutrients because of their demanding digestion requirements. That being said, refined sugars should be limited. Refined means that the natural minerals and nutrients are stripped away. You are getting empty calories, but it's worse than that. It removes healthy minerals and nutrients from the body to help with digesting it.

This is why there are studies that drinking sodas and diet sodas increase the chance of osteoporosis.

There is also a connection between sugar and cancer. Sugar is highly acidic and cancer grows quicker in acidic environments. Plus it weakens the immune system.
